FACULTY OF TECHNICAL SCIENCES

Established: 2000
The Faculty has inherited the well-founded traditions, started with the establishent of the Higher Institute of Chemical Technology .Prof. Dr Assen Zlatarov, in the field of chemical technology education. Over 6,500 chemists and engineers, 150 of whom foreigners from Europe, Asia, Africa and America, have graduated it so far and successfully started work in the chemistry and other industrial branches.

Master's programmes for the following specializations have been developed: Polymer technology, Oil technology and himmotology, Technology of organic synthesis, Technology of silicates, Technology of inorganic and electrochemical productions, Water technology, Chemical engineering, Material science and technology.

Major areas of research:
- Synthesis, recycling and use of polymers and polymer mixtures;

- Homogeneous transition metal catalysis - isomerization, dimerization, oligomerization, polymerization of lower alkanes, synthesis of high-octane components;

- Synthesis of membranes and universal antidotes and their application in technologies, ecology and medicine;

- Use of physicochemical and biotechnological processes in waste water recycling;
- Corrosion of circulation water-cooling systems;
- Biodegradation and biotransformation of organic compounds; Biosorption of heavy metals;
- Condenser, aluminosilicate and electrotechnical ceramics;
- Composite materials; - Exergetic analysis of technological processes;
- Study of mass transfer processes in splitting and chemical reactors.

The Faculty is a partner in several international projects. A large part of the research is related to research and production contracts and services. There are active contacts with the University in Magdeburg, Germany; the Institute of Polymers, Belgium; the University of Montpellier, France; Moscow Academy of Fine Chemical Technologies .Lomonosov, Russia and Ufa Oil Institute, Russia.
Facilities:
42 study and research laboratories with over 630 work places with specialised chemical and biochemical equipment.
