ASPECTS OF FEEDING NEWBORNS IN THE INTENSIVE CARE UNIT

ABSTRACT: Newborns with difficult adaptation and those born with low and extremely low weight require long-term stay and care, which increase the costs associated with their hospitalization. Various specific complications in these newborns are associated with the immaturity of organs and systems and depend on heterogeneous factors affecting their adaptive capabilities.
The article is aimed at presenting aspects of the organization of nutrition in the intensive neonatology department.
Result and discussion: Many factors affect the adaptation process and depend on the condition of newborns, on nutrition and persist for a long time after dehospitalization by a medical institution. 87 newborns were monitored in the neonatology intensive care unit in terms of factors related to adaptation and the feeding process. The introduction of modern protocols of adequate nutrition in the intensive care unit of a newborn contributes to improving the absorption of nutrients, growth, reducing hospital stay and, consequently, reducing the cost of patient treatment.
Conclusion: adequate nutrition for newborns is of paramount importance in terms of its growth and development, protecting it from possible future complications. The diet and nutrition regime is determined in accordance with the needs and physiological state of the newborn, depending on his gestational age.
