ERASMUS program What is ERASMUS?
Since 2007 “Prof. Dr. Assen Zlatarov” University has been participating in the EU ERASMUS program for cooperation in the field of higher education. ERASMUS is a specialized program for cooperation within the SOCRATES program framework. All ERASMUS activities are carried out on the basis of voluntary, mutually beneficial agreements between independent universities. Within the framework of the ERASMUS program Bulgarian universities can negotiate and enter into a partnership with universities from the EU member countries. The ERASMUS program offers opportunities for individual mobility of students, doctoral students and teaching staff of our university for participation in the educational programs of universities in the EU member countries. Student and teaching staff mobility Mobility under ERASMUS is organised on the basis of the concluded bilateral agreements between University “Prof. Dr. Assen Zlatarov” and other universities from European countries participating in the program. Student mobility includes sending students and doctoral students from our university for study periods of minimum 3 months and maximum 12 months for one academic year in European universities and receiving foreign students from partner universities. Teaching staff mobility involves sending university teachers from University “Prof. Dr. Assen Zlatarov”on short teaching assignments or as lecturers in partner universities and visits of foreign teachers to our university. All students and doctoral students of University “Prof. Dr. Assen Zlatarov” who are Bulgarian citizens or officially given a refugee status by the Bulgarian government or foreign citizens who are permanent residents of Bulgaria are eligible for mobility grants under the ERASMUS program, if they meet the following criteria:
How to apply for the ERASMUS program? The International Relation Department at the university carries out this task. It is the department which you can address for participation in the program and which has to assist you in the preparation of your mobility. ERASMUS students retain their students’ rights at our university, i.e. they pay a tuition fee for the semester and preserve their right for an academic grant if they have been awarded such. The study period abroad should be completely recognized by the sending institution. No university fees (for tuition, registration, examination, access to laboratory, library facilities etc.) are to be paid at the host institution.
ERASMUS bilateral agreements for the academic year 2008/2009
Mobility under ERASMUS is carried out on the basis of concluded bilateral agreements between University “Prof. Dr. Assen Zlatarov” and 6 universities from European countries participating in the program. The agreements specify the academic year, the number of agreed mobility for each of the participating countries and universities, as well as the academic fields in which education and teaching will be done.
