STRUCTURE AND MISSION
The University library was established in 1963 at the same time as the Higher Institute of Chemical Engineering in Burgas and today it plays a major role in the development of Bulgarian Science and Education. The University Library consists of a Central Library and 3 branch libraries, which are parts of faculties and Colleges at the University (Faculty of Social Science, College of Tourism and Medical College). The Library at Assen Zlatarov University is one of the biggest libraries in Bourgas and it is actively used by students and citizens. The Library is a modern cultural and intellectual center for research, study, reading and pleasure. About 150 reader’s places for customers are equipped in the reading rooms. Library offers services that combine the traditions and the modern technologies that made it a modern library and information center.

Library collections of about 255 000 volumes includes:
All funds of the books are arranged alphabetically for systematic self-selection of literature from the library users.
patent fund - organized under the requirements of IPC (International Patent Classification) for class, group and subgroup and country.
Standards Fund - domestic and foreign standards, arranged by year and number.
Annually Library and Information Center has been visited of about 30 000 times; it recorded around 3 000 users and distributed an average of 100 000 volumes of literature.
Since 1988 in the library has been implemented software with modules for automation of library and information activities at the university. In the system works:
All modules are connected in a local network between the four libraries in the University structure. Students have access to these databases from eight Internet workstations in the reading rooms of Central library.

The library has a stable contacts for mutual exchange of publications with more than 50 other libraries and scientific institutions in Bulgaria and 10 abroad, including the largest libraries in the world: The Library of Congress in Washington, The Russian State Library in Moscow, The British Library in London, Technische Informationsbibliothek und Universitätsbibliothek in Hanover and others.
