College of Tourism – Bоurgas is a basic unit of the structure of the Prof. Dr. Assen Zlatarov University. The College was founded in 1967 for the purpose of training intermediate executive managerial staff after the launch of a new state policy concerning the rapid development of international tourism in Bulgaria. Situated in the immediate vicinity of the beach in a beautiful park College of Tourism provides excellent conditions for combining a highly efficient teaching process with a wide variety of leisure activities.

The mission of the College is theoretical and professional students’ training for the needs of the Tourism Industry in under-graduate level - “Professional Bachelor” degree, and research work. At present the actual number of students is 680. The education is carrying out in two specialties:
• “Organization and Management of the Tourist Services” – fulltime students;
• “Organization and Management of Hotels and Restaurants” – fulltime and extra-mural students.

The duration of the educational process is six semesters for fulltime students and seven semesters for extra-mural students.

The curriculum of the specialty “Organization and Management of the Tourist Services” includes subjects building fundamental and professional knowledge and skills in the field of tourism, intermediary activities, traveler’s transport and language skills. As a result of training, the graduates could find realization in the tourist practice as:
• Managers and Functional Specialists in intermediary activities in the tourism industry;
• Tour-operators, Tourist Agents and Information Clerks;
• Representatives of Tourist Companies;
• Tourist Guides in the country and abroad;
• Animators, exchange specialist, etc.

The curriculum of the specialty “Organization and Management of Hotels and Restaurants” includes subjects which form fundamental and professional training in the field of hotel and restaurant operations in the tourism industry and very good language skills. The graduates could be realised as:
• Managers and Functional Specialists in Hotels and Restaurants of different categories;
• Functional Specialists in the Hotel and Restaurant industry;
• Front office manages, etc.

The College of tourism’s building comprises four parts and offers excellent facilities for theoretical and professional education and training and leisure time of the students: Training block, Hotel “Park”, Restaurant and Coffee-shop. The Training block includes 39 classrooms:
• Convention Rooms – 3;
• Seminar rooms – 27;
• Special study rooms (9) for the following disciplines: Food Technology, Catering Systems, Traditions and Culinary Art, Food Commodities, Food and Beverage Service, Catering Events, Bartenders Training, Sommeliers Training, Language Laboratory, Information Technology Laboratory;
• Conference Hall;
• Library;
• Sport facilities;
• Social facilities.

The academic staff of the College consists of 20 lecturers, allocated in accordance with their scientific field in two departments:
1. Department “Economic and Management of the Tourist Service”;
2. Department “Organization and Technology of the Tourist Service.

The Department for Language Education, situated at the territory of the College, realizes language training in English, German, Russian, French, Polish and Czech languages.

The research work is a main part of the academic staff’s activities. The findings are presented via publishing books and articles and participation in international and national scientific conferences.

During its creative development, the College of tourism participates in different International Projects: Bulgarian Academic Link Project and Bulgarian Tourism Management Project, financed by British Council, Know-How Fund, with collaboration with Universities in UK and Bulgaria, Phare Programme, Leonardo Da Vinci Pilot Project, etc.

The College of Tourism has won numerous prizes in national culinary competitions, which is an evidence for the high quality of the theoretical and professional education of the students.
